Prayerful Parenting – Day 6
Today’s verse of focus is one of my favorites! Joshua 1:9 – ‘This is my command – Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’
God speaks these words to Joshua as he steps up to lead the Israelites following the death of Moses. Joshua had big shoes to fill – BIG SHOES – can you imagine what sort of questions and fears may have flooded his mind as he prepared to fill the role God called him into?
I wonder what his thoughts were as he considered Moses’ interactions with Pharaoh, the Red Sea crossing, his reception of the ten commandments, the fact that God allowed Him to see Him and his face shone!!! Moses’ faith in God was steadfast and strong, and because of it – God did HUGE things for the Israelites.
Let us think over this verse, and pray these words over the lives of our children. They were spoken to Joshua many, many years ago, but their nature of encouragement is still applicable today. Joshua was a faithful servant of God. God calls us to be faithful in the same, and in that same faithful servanthood he commands us, ‘Be strong, and courageous!’ Let our prayer today be that our children’s faith and servanthood be pure, and consistent. As that pure consistency builds may their strength and courage swell as they realize that the Lord of the Universe – Creator of ALL things – is with THEM wherever they go.
